Below is brief resume of the events Worthing Downlanders have organised or taken part in recently.
 

Findon Sheep Fair - Saturday September 11th.

The Worthing Downlanders Stall at Findon sheep Fair was a great success. As well as almost 40 new members signed up, it was clear that the message is getting across. Many thanks to all those who stopped by to say hello and to those who just wondered what we are all about!

Protest & Picnic - Saturday September 4th.

In order to keep the pressure up on Worthing Council to grant Statutory public access to the Council owned land around Cissbury Ring, a protest was held on Broadwater Green followed by a walk up to Tenants Hill where a mass picnic took place. In all over 85 people took part which generated great interest in the local press.


 



 

Jefferies Day - Saturday August 14

A forgotten genius from Worthing’s past was celebrated by Worthing Downlanders in the town on Saturday August 14th .

Richard Jefferies, who died on that very day back in 1887, was a journalist and writer whose descriptions of the English countryside won him widespread fame more than 100 years ago.

Ascending the Downs: physical and spiritual liberation

Midsummer Walk - Sunday June 20th

Historian Chris Hare conducted a circular downland walk from Highdown to Patching Hill. Taking in local features such as Highdown Towers, Miller’s Tomb, Patching village & Church, and Patching Hill, it was a wonderful chance to see some of the land we wish to keep in public ownership.
